Hello! I am Dr. Mabel Yu, a Licensed Psychologist. I earned my Master's and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Regina. I also completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the DBT Centre of Vancouver, where I provided evidence-based comprehensive dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), and trauma treatment. In this important work, I supported clients in navigating intense emotions, reducing harmful behaviours, responding more effectively when faced with painful experiences, and building a life more closely aligned with their values.

My extensive training in psychological intervention and assessment also includes an accredited pre-doctoral residency at The Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre, where I worked with clients experiencing a wide range of mental health challenges and life stressors. I have also worked in outpatient, community, and private practice settings in Calgary and Regina during my doctoral training.

I have experience conducting comprehensive psychological assessments with adults and youth, including mental health (psychodiagnostic), psychoeducational, and cognitive functioning assessments. Having immigrated to Canada at a very young age, I have long been curious about how culture, identity, and lived experience influence the way people understand themselves and the world around them. This curiosity is part of what drew me to the field of psychology, and especially to psychological assessment. I find this work incredibly meaningful because it allows me to piece together different sources of information to better understand each person's story. To me, assessment feels a bit like detective work: skillfully gathering evidence, noticing patterns, and making sense of how a person's experiences, differences, and strengths shape who they are and the way they interact with the world.

When you come in for an assessment, my goal is to ensure the process feels collaborative, supportive, and valuable. I want you to leave with greater clarity, a better understanding of yourself and your needs, and practical recommendations to help you make meaningful change. I feel honoured when clients trust me with such personal parts of their lives, and I strive to honour that trust by approaching the process with care, respect, and thoughtful attention.

In my free time, I love going on mountainous hikes with my partner and our two fluffy dogs, Luna and Lokki. I also love to travel. Banff is my favourite place in Canada and Japan is currently my favourite country I have visited.
