I completed my Doctor of Medicine (MD) at the University of British Columbia and completed residency training in psychiatry at the University of Toronto. I have moved back home to BC to practice as a psychiatrist.

Throughout my training, I developed an interest in mood and anxiety-related disorders, completing numerous clinical rotations at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and affiliated institutions such as the Thompson Centre for OCD and the Garry Hurvitz Centre for Brain & Mental Health. I have also developed an interest in how cultural upbringing and experiences may impact and shape patients’ mental health journeys.

Personal interests include playing racquet sports such as pickleball and badminton, spending time with family, and travelling.

Policies:

Cancellation / Rescheduling: Due to my limited availability and out of consideration for my waitlist, I require at least 48 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Each case is considered individually, but I reserve the right to charge a $100 fee if notice is given less than 48 hours in advance. Please note that rescheduled appointments may be scheduled several months after the original date.

Insurance / Disability / Third-Party Forms: In general, I do not complete third-party, insurance, or disability forms. I will write a comprehensive psychiatric report that will be sent to your primary care provider, who may contribute to completing forms.

Report Guidelines: All reports will be completed within 1 week of the consultation and will be sent to primary care providers. I cannot guarantee a faster turnaround.

Our team facilitates internal referrals to our consulting psychiatrist only for active clients of our clinic.

Psychiatric consultations are covered by MSP and require a referral. Our clinic only facilitates referrals to Dr. Yang for active clients of Pacific Maple Psych Centre.

To be eligible for referral, clients must be:

Actively engaged in ongoing therapy at our clinic (typically biweekly)
OR working with one of our doctoral students under supervision
OR have recently completed an assessment in our clinic (any of psychological, autism, ADHD, or psychoeducational)

Consultation model:

One-time psychiatric consultation
Diagnostic impressions and medication recommendations (if appropriate)
Report shared with you and your family physician

Dr. Yang does not provide ongoing follow-up appointments. Medication prescriptions and renewals are managed by your family physician. Ongoing support is provided by your therapist at our clinic, with the possibility of a later re-referral to Dr. Yang if further consultation becomes necessary.
